Besides an Artist in Residence, m4gastatelier is a platform for the production, presentation and contextualization of contemporary art by means of a diverse range of disciplines. In close cooperation with several art institutions in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and beyond, m4gastatelier pays special attention to research-oriented projects. It has a strong international interest and perspective, while focusing on creators, new forms, science disciplines, crossovers, 'bottom-up' research, curiosity, and novel relationships.

Since its founding in 2005, over 200 artists from home and abroad have enjoyed the opportunity to work and reside in m4gastatelier’s studio. Their sojourns are alternated with workshops, exhibitions and lectures. m4gastatelier also produces manifestations, exhibitions, and research and educational projects.

Location
The studio of m4gastatelier is situated in the large building complex Tetterode, where over 200 people have been working and/or living since the 1980s. Since the typesetting company left its former factory building in 1981, Tetterode has become one of the most renowned working & living complexes of the Netherlands. The 11.000 m2 building comprises artist studios, residents and cultural companies . m4gastatelier, with 120m2, is situated on the 4th floor of a modern extension of this complex, characterized by transparency, space, light and air. This part of the building houses the majority of the 35 artists' studios and art organizations  such as fanfare, Hard//hoofd, Platform BK and  Gerhard Hofland Gallery.

Naast een Artist in Residence is m4gastatelier een platform voor de productie, presentatie en contextualisering van hedendaagse kunst door middel van een divers scala aan disciplines. In nauwe samenwerking met verschillende kunstinstellingen in Amsterdam, Nederland en daarbuiten, besteedt m4gastatelier speciale aandacht aan onderzoeksgerichte projecten. Het heeft een sterk internationaal belang en perspectief, terwijl het zich richt op makers, nieuwe vormen, wetenschappelijke disciplines, cross-overs, 'bottom-up' onderzoek, ontdekken en nieuwe relaties.

Sinds de oprichting in 2005 hebben meer dan 200 kunstenaars uit binnen- en buitenland de kans gekregen om in het atelier van m4gastatelier te werken en te verblijven. Hun verblijf wordt afgewisseld met workshops, tentoonstellingen en lezingen. m4gastatelier produceert tevens manifestaties, tentoonstellingen en onderzoeks- en educatieve projecten.

Locatie
Het atelier van m4gastatelier is gevestigd in het grote gebouwencomplex Tetterode, waar sinds de jaren tachtig meer dan 200 mensen werken en/of wonen. Sinds Lettergieterij Amsterdam in 1981 haar voormalige fabriekspand verliet, is Tetterode uitgegroeid tot een van de meest gerenommeerde werk- & wooncomplexen van Nederland. Het 11.000 m2 grote gebouwencomplex bestaat uit kunstenaarsateliers, bewoners en culturele bedrijven. m4gastatelier, met 120m2, bevindt zich op de 4e verdieping van een moderne uitbreiding van dit complex, gekenmerkt door transparantie, ruimte, licht en lucht. Dit deel van het gebouw huisvest het merendeel van de 35 kunstenaarsateliers en kunstorganisaties, zoals fanfare, Hard//hoofd, Platform BK and  Gerhard Hofland Gallery.
